Our opinion

A sporty-chic model par excellence whose world time complication contributes particularly to its desirability. The Aquanaut in its ultimate version thanks to its Travel Time complication with local and home time indication.  The day/night indications for local time and home time are made via discreet windows.

The Aquanaut Travel Time reference 5164 allows the simultaneous display of two time zones and is the ideal companion for all those who travel for business or pleasure. Launched in 1997, but based on a Patek Philippe patent from 1959, this ingenious and exclusive mechanism is distinguished by its extreme simplicity of use, combined with perfect readability. The watch has two central hour hands with a different design: a solid hand for the local time and a hollowed-out hand for the home time (place of residence or usual work). When travelling, simply press one of the two corrector pushers integrated into the case middle to move the local time hand forward or backward by one-hour increments. During these operations, the local time hand is disengaged from the movement, thus preserving the precision of the minute and second hands. The dual day/night indication for home time and local time indicates whether it is day or night time - so you don't wake up a relative or colleague by calling them in the middle of sleep. The date is indexed to the local time. When not using the dual time zone function, the two superimposed hour hands move in perfect sync. The owner of this watch thus benefits from two timepieces in one. Another special feature: the Aquanaut Travel Time reference 5164 combines its ultra-practical dual time zone display with the comfort of an automatic movement, which is also equipped with a Spiromax balance spring made of Silinvar - a decisive advance in terms of precision and reliability.

For over 25 years, the Aquanaut has been one of those watches that leaves no one indifferent. Its young, modern design is above all unexpected; characterized by its rounded octagonal case - inspired by the Nautilus case - it is also a technical evolution with its "tropical" bracelet, made from a new composite material that is waterproof and ultra-resistant to both traction and ultraviolet rays.

The Aquanaut is a traditional luxury watch, even if it doesn't necessarily fit in with the image we have of Patek Philippe. Before it, Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak and Patek's Nautilus also broke with the conservatism of the high-end watchmaking industry.

The Aquanaut, celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2017 with the launch of a model with a blue dial in white gold, is one of the brand's benchmark models.
